Payment methods and fees

Like shipping methods, you create payment methods once and select them per shop. The core brings Prepayment, On account and Cash on delivery; online payments come with payment modules.

For all payment methods

Under Consho setup → Payment methods: title, type, description and the Payment notice, which appears after the order and in the confirmation – with prepayment together with the bank connection.

The types

Prepaymentwith account holder, IBAN (the check digits are checked), BIC and bank; on request with a Giro-Code on the invoice (only in euros). The invoice is issued with the order; you record the incoming payment in the order under “Money flows”.
On accountwith payment term and grace period (14 days each if empty), optionally only for certain customer groups (then without guests), up to a highest net amount in one currency, only within one country and not for digital goods. The invoice is issued on shipment.
Cash on deliveryonly if the selected shipping method has “Cash on delivery possible”; with a fixed net fee in one currency. The invoice is issued on shipment.

A freely set surcharge for individual payment methods, a few euros for prepayment or purchase on account, say, is something Consho deliberately does not offer. In the EU, no charge may be requested for SEPA credit transfer, SEPA direct debit and consumer debit and credit cards, and for other means of payment no more than your own costs (Art. 62 Payment Services Directive, Art. 19 Consumer Rights Directive). Member states implement this with different strictness: Germany adopts exactly this list (§ 270a BGB), Austria prohibits such a charge altogether (§ 56 (3) ZaDiG 2018). In the core, only cash on delivery has a fee; whether you may charge it is your responsibility. Payment modules can charge a fee as well.

How a fee is taxed you choose at the payment method under “Tax on a fee”: proportional to the goods, like shipping, or with a fixed tax class. Whether it is ancillary to the goods, clarify with your tax adviser. Without this choice the payment method is not offered.

In the shop and at checkout

As with the shipping methods: tick and order them in the shop configuration; the topmost available one is preselected.

Changing the payment method

On their order page the customer can change the payment method once; an invoice already issued is cancelled and issued again. This is no longer possible once a payment has come in, after a withdrawal, when the status locks changes or for a subscription order past its payment term.

Findings

  • No payment method selected or none published: blocks the checkout.
  • Fee without a tax choice (warning): the payment method is silently missing from the checkout.
  • Prepayment unpaid for more than 14 days and invoice past its payment term (notes): Consho neither cancels nor sends reminders by itself.
  • Prepayment invoice without a delivery time in the shop and test provider active (warnings).
  • The payment method … does not work as expected (warning): the payment module reports a problem, missing credentials for example; the reason is given with it.
  • Payments without a notification (warning, 7 days): Consho only booked payments when it asked the provider before they lapsed. Check the payment method's webhook address.
  • Payments the provider has been reviewing for more than 7 days (warning): Consho asks every hour and books as soon as the provider decides.
