Cart rules and discount codes
Cart rules give a discount on the purchase – with a code the customer enters, or by themselves when the conditions match.
In the back end
Under Consho master data → Cart rules.
| Title | appears in the basket and on the invoice. |
|---|---|
| Code | case counts. Empty: the rule applies by itself. |
| Effect | percent of the goods, a fixed amount or free shipping. |
| Amount | gross, net for net customers – never more than the value of the goods it applies to. |
| Shops, Currency | the currency is mandatory for an amount or a minimum order value. |
| Minimum order value | value of the goods without shipping, payment method and subscriptions. |
| Products, Manufacturers, Product types, Customer groups | what the rule applies to and for whom. |
| Uses in total / per customer | 0 = unlimited. Members are counted by account, guests by e-mail address; a cancellation gives the use back. |
| Active, Valid from / to | as with the price rules. |
What can be combined
- At most one code per order.
- Automatic rules are not added up; if a code and an automatic rule meet, the cheaper one applies.
- No effect on subscriptions and gift vouchers.
Behaviour on the website
The code is entered in the basket. Consho tells the customer exactly why a code does not work – such as “not valid at the moment”, “already been redeemed”, the amount still missing for the minimum order value or “another discount saves you more”. After ten failed attempts in 15 minutes, entry is blocked for a short while.
If a code is used up between the “Review and buy” step and the purchase click, nothing is ordered. The customer then sees the message “The discount was used up in the meantime. Nothing was ordered” and their order without the discount, to confirm it again.
On the invoice
The discount appears as a minus line of its own with title and code, split by tax rate; the goods lines keep their price. Legally it is a reduction of the consideration, not a voucher. With a partial withdrawal, the discount is taken out proportionally – nothing is charged back, even if the order then falls below the minimum order value.
